Anyone still playing DAoC at this point?
I just came back after a 1 1/2 year absence. Realistically, I really shouldn't have the time or money to be wasting, but had a serious craving to play again and just couldn't resist.
So I've basically missed everything since about 2 weeks after LotM came out.
Anything I should know?
And how many people are still regularly playing the game? (Lord knows no one that I know is... I've been soloing for two weeks now without anyone so much as talking to me, other than to ask for bodies to help form guilds I'm not invited to be part of.)

Glitches with bainshees in Catacombs?
Has anyone been having problems with their bainshees turning invisible when they go into attack mode? I can see other bainshees, just not mine when I morph. Any ideas?

Fondest DAOC memory?
In DF, sprinting back as fast as possible from a gigantic zerg of hibs that were advancing on the entrance, and dying not two feet from the portal. Well, not the fondest but certainly the most memorable for some reason.

It's been two years...
Since last login. How has my game changed?
I still have that god damned theme music stuck in my head. Duun DUN dun dun dun, etc.
Also, how can I get my L50 armsman back (If, say I wanted to play again...) if I forgot my username and PW?

Speaking of Life in MMORPG Terms
MMORPG = Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Game
The Laundry Quest
This quest can be repeated.
Experience is lousy but it does drop a few nice sets of clean armor that give a +10 Charisma bonus for their freshly laundered smell.
Use of a softener potion adds an extra +5 Charisma bonus to the armor.
The quest is almost always done solo. Occassionally you can put together a pick-up-group of other guild members but they don't always stick around to help you with the entire quest.
The hardest mobs you will encounter are called "Stains". With a special potion you can quash the stains with minimum effort. See your local alchemist before attempting this quest to obtain the required potions. (Soap, Softener, Stain quasher) Level 70+ Stains may take longer to subdue or need specialized magics to quash. Please consult with your local alchemist for high level Stain encounters. Lower level Stains are not resistant to Soap. Soap will actually give you "to hit" bonuses against very low level Stains.
It is recommended that for a guild of 3-4 this quest be completed, in its entirety, at least once/week.

Big changes afoot...
It's not so bad I guess. People will crossrealm if they wanna.
This provides an interesting opportunity for people to actually play together who couldn't before.
Say making a LiveJournal Server/Realm. What say we all roll up something someplace?! Could even have our own guild. LJ required.
Boy wouldn't that make for some impressive DAoC drama?! Current Mood: bouncy

i'm in a rut, i've hit a wall. i don't really want to RvR anymore, but PvE bores me to tears.
usually when i get like this, where it's almost painful to log in on my normal server-cluster-Realm, i just go to one of my alt servers and play there for a while. but lately i haven't even wanted to do that.
i guess i'm taking a break for a while.... i'm sure this apathy has hit some of you at some point, as well. heck, it's not even the first time i've felt this way in these last 4 years... thankfully, the new expansion isn't that far off, lol. Current Mood: bleh

Trials of Atlantis
Having problems with vicious lag in RvR?
Lost that old ToA CD and can't get a non-catacombs-engine copy?
Eorhad's Crazy Ideas That Just So Happen To Work(tm) to the rescue!
Go to http://goa.daoc.com
, and hit the downloads section. Select the "Full Game" section, and get the 1.9GB version of ToA. Not the other version though, because that runs on Cats engine.
"But Eorhad, that's a UK version of DAoC! That won't work for us in the USA!"
Of course it will, if you follow these few simple steps.
1) Download the ToA installer.
2) Run once, select install directory, and let it update the patcher.
3) Run the patcher again from the desktop/start menu shortcut.
4) Let it install the whole game via update/patch.
5) After it's finished, go to the directory you installed ToA to, and open update.dat in notepad.
6) Change the update addresses to patch.daoc.net:1280/updates/atlantis/mpatch.dat
7) Re-run the patcher, and wait a while for it to update.
8) Open login.dat and replace the contents with the following:( login.datCollapse )
9) Re-run the patcher once more, for any last minute changes.
10) Download and install the NF Expansion (This ToA copy doesn't come with it, so hit fileplanet or another site for the NF Expansion)
11) Login and play.
This concludes the ToA walkthrough for those of you with a good connection, but inability to find a copy of the older ToA client on CD/DVD.
To show your appeciation of this short walkthrough, paypal me all the money I saved you :)
(or just use the BAF code "Jeralim" when you make bot accounts.)

One of the joys of playing an MMORPG is establishing who your character is. A large part of this identity is in the form of the character name. There have been plenty of humorous attempts at names of characters; and, of course, sometimes, names go overboard. One of the not-so-fun roles an MMORPG company must play is censor. A character's name is readily visible to all who play the game -- this name must adhere to naming conventions. To that end, MMORPG companies will typically establish a naming policy.
One such company, is EA/Mythic. Recently, it seems as if EA/Mythic is taking the hardline on their naming policy. When IS a naming policy too strict?
To summarize: A guild mate (We are all in Winter, arguably the largest and
strongest Mid guild on Gareth) was recently informed his series of toon
names all beginning with 'Skeet' are considered offensive. He has used
these names since day 1 of the beta (and even before then in other games).
For instance, his healer on Gareth is named 'Skeetario'. His SM is named
'Skeetarian'. His hunter is named 'Skeetaru'. Anyway, someone appealed
this, suggesting his name was offensive. It took a bit of research and digging to find that relatively recently, the
term 'skeet' has come to mean a certain male sexual function. How obscure
There's been plenty of email to and from Mythic, and their final word is
that his name must change.
There has laready been a fair amount of online visibility to this issue. Here are 3 such samples:http://vnboards.ign.com/gareth_classic/b23003/98469061/p1/?76

Really old screenshots...
I found these screenshots from when my first toon was level 4 or so, before I'd ever left the safe confines of Campacorentin Forest. Mobliz was around then, and he was green con. LOL.( +2Collapse )
